BRUCE CONNELL

ARTIST

"As far back as I can remember I have drawn. Until I was 15 and went to art school I drew lying on the floor; bad for posture and very bad for perception. My time at art school was divided between graphic design, sculpture and life-drawing. I still draw from life, 45 years on."

"For the past fifteen years or so I have used photographs for reference and I have striven to reproduce the photographic image in my work. However, after spending two to three months on one painting (as exemplified by “Flock”) I found it necessary to loosen my technique and, basically, to have some fun. The comic-book style is the result of this re-direction and my nude paintings have taken this looseness to an even greater level."
